Moss landscape

How does it work?

A living ecosystem. On its own, or almost.

Our creations are real miniature ecosystems that operate in a closed circuit. Humidity circulates, plants breathe, the substrate nourishes the roots — a natural cycle that runs almost entirely on its own.

See maintenance guide ➜

Closed circuit

Water, air, and nutrients circulate in a loop. Creation lives in near autonomy.

2 to 4 sprays / year

A light spray when the condensation disappears in the morning, that's all.

Experience for years

Homemade substrate for a creation that settles in and lasts. Year after year.

The Ecosystem

Nature takes care of everything.

A glass ecosystem is a miniature piece of forest. Humidity evaporates, condenses on the walls, and falls back onto the plants. Plants produce their own oxygen. The substrate decomposes and nourishes the roots.

The result: a natural cycle that runs on a loop, with minimal intervention from you. Almost self-sufficient, truly alive.

Interview guide: How do they live?

Select your creation to find out how it lives

The water cycle

Moisture evaporates from the plants and soil, condenses on the walls, and falls back in fine droplets. A natural, self-contained watering system.

Photosynthesis

Plants absorb CO₂ and produce oxygen thanks to daylight. The air renews itself inside.

Nutrients

The mosses, roots, and substrate slowly decompose, releasing the nutrients that plants need.

Beneath the surface

  1. Drainage layer Gravel, lava rock, sand. Stores excess moisture, like the rock on which a forest grows.
  2. Substrate Our proven mix: sphagnum, coco fiber, pine bark, worm castings. Retains moisture and drains it when there's too much.
  3. Live mosses On the surface, they maintain moisture and absorb it from lower layers when it is lacking. The natural regulator of the ecosystem.

The Interview, In Brief

  1. 1
    Note

Look at the condensation in the morning. If it's gone, it's time to act.

  2. 2
    Spray

Half a teaspoon for small formats, a full teaspoon for larger ones. 1 to 6 times a year depending on location.

  3. 3
    Clean up

Remove dead leaves from time to time to keep the substrate clean.

  4. 4
    Cut

Every 1 to 2 years, when plants overgrow the space. A good prune, a wipe of the window, and it's good to go again.

No green thumb required.
A living painting just for you.

Where to install it?

Indirect lighting

Near a window, but not in direct sunlight. Direct light burns plants.

Ambient temperature

Between 18 and 22°C, just like at home. No special conditions required.

Out of drafts

Avoid permanently open windows and drafty corridors.

Keep away from heat sources

Radiators, fireplaces, cooktops: direct heat dries out the ecosystem.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we are asked most often. If you haven't found the answer, please don't hesitate to write to us.

There's condensation, is that normal?

Yes, condensation is part of the water cycle. It appears in the morning and evening when the temperature varies. During the day, there should be little of it. If the walls remain constantly fogged up, open your creation for 24 hours to let the excess moisture escape.

There are small bugs, is that normal?

The small white insects scurrying around are springtails—your allies. They feed on organic waste and keep your ecosystem clean. If you see small gnats (fungus gnats), open your creation outside to let them escape.

Is that mold or mildew, is it serious?

No. Mold is common in a young ecosystem and usually goes away on its own. Fungi are a sign of excellent health—remove them when they start to fall apart to avoid excess organic matter.

Should I add fertilizer?

No, and it's even ill-advised. All necessary nutrients are already in the substrate. Adding fertilizer risks unbalancing the ecosystem. For creations older than 4 years, please contact us to assess whether a minimal contribution is necessary.

How and when to water?

Mist (do not pour) when you no longer see condensation in the morning. Half a teaspoon for small plants, one teaspoon for large ones. Generally, 1 to 6 times a year. Moss is also an indicator: if it becomes dry or brown, mist. When in doubt, it's better to water too little than too much.

How to prune and clean?

When plants become too dense (every 1 to 2 years): prune heavily with clean scissors, remove debris with tweezers, and clean the walls with a damp cloth. Never prune more than one-third of a plant. Cuttings can be replanted in the same ecosystem or in a pot.

How long do they live?

With minimal maintenance (2-3 sprays per year), a terrarium can live for years. The moss grows slowly and continues to thicken over time.

The foam is turning yellow, what should I do?

Two possible causes: lack of light or overwatering. Move your creation closer to an indirect light source. If the substrate is waterlogged, open the cap for 24 hours to let it dry.
